Meet Our Optometrists / Eye Doctors
Gerald Jay Blazius, O.D., was raised in Clinton Township and graduated from Clintondale High School. He pursued a biology degree from Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, MI. Upon completion of his undergraduate degree, he attended Ferris State University. In 1988, he graduated with honors and received a Bachelor of Science in Visual Science and a Doctorate of Optometry. Dr. Blazius regularly attends conferences and continuing-education opportunities to remain informed of the continual advances in optometry.
Since becoming an optometrist, Dr. Blazius has practiced in commercial, hospital-based and private-practice optometric settings. He prefers private practice, where personal care and patient satisfaction are his Number One priority. He values the individual relationship and rapport he builds with every patient.
Dr. Blazius has worked at Normandy Optical for the past 20 years. In September of 2008, he purchased the practice and vowed to continue providing the outstanding eye care services his patients have come to expect. Dr. Blazius partners with several local ophthalmologists in the co-management of cataract and Lasik patients for both pre-operative and post-operative care.
Dr. Blazius has extensive knowledge in prescribing and fitting contact lenses. His expertise focuses on identifying the individual needs of each patient. After Dr. Blazius determines the best lens for your situation, his highly trained staff administers classes for the use and care of your contacts. Many patients who have been unable to wear contact lenses in the past seek out Dr. Blazius for a consultation. He has a stellar reputation for prescribing hard-to-fit lenses.
Dr. Blazius always strives to meet the needs of every patient. Once you have visited Normandy Optical, you are a member of their family.
Thomas F. Koehler, O.D., was raised in Warren and graduated from Warren Lincoln High School. He pursued an applied biology degree from Ferris State University. Prior to baccalaureate completion, he was accepted to Ferris State Optometry College. In 1987, he graduated with honors, he was named senior clinician of the year, and he earned the contact lens study award. In 2009, Dr. Koehler was included in the “Guide to America’s Top Optometrists.”
Since becoming an optometrist, Dr. Koehler has practiced in an ophthalmological practice and in a commercial setting as a private contractor. The overall health and visual needs of his patients have been the backbone of his professional career and will continue to be his utmost concern.
Dr. Koehler has built a reputation as a contact lens consultant by fitting keratoconic, multifocal, and astigmatic patients who have had difficulties in the past. His diagnostic skills have led to many referrals to cataract, corneal, Lasik, oculoplastic, glaucoma, and retinal specialists. Dr. Koehler’s patience and knowledge have led to many patients seeking his care and following him in his career path.
In April of 2010, Dr. Koehler formed a partnership with Dr. Blazius of Normandy Optical, and together they will strive to make both the visual health and satisfaction of their patients their first priority.
